Forgive me for being late. I lost interest in my own story for a while and then had trouble in figuring out worthy presents for Dark. -.-' Anyways, I got this written. I will, hopefully, give this a read later on to check off possible mistakes so, I'm sorry if those exist right now. ^^;
And before anyone asks, this is from RP I have with :iconcarrie-j: in which the trio of two Dark Links and one Link are blood brothers. They have two years difference between each other which goes on the lines of Dark (SDP's Dark Link) is 8, Link (my version) is 6 and Darky (my Dark Link) is 4. Dark, being the oldest, has taught his brothers to read. I might write that story someday.
Now, enjoy of the story! :aww:
-.-.-.-

Dark was in a really good mood as he was walking down the street with his two brothers. Two days anymore and then he could be on the Christmas holidays. He fully looked towards the winter days filled with snowball fights and ice skating with his brothers. Yet, currently the trio’s destination was the library to get something to read for the evenings they’d stay up late.

“Alright, you two, don’t wander off too far. Just pick two, maybe three books that you’re really up for reading.” Dark told once they entered the building. His younger brothers nodded and the trio separated ways even though the oldest wasn’t fully happy of that. Link, the middle brother, went straight to the section of animals and nature. He stared wide-eyed at the amount of the books without knowing where to start or what he would want to read. In fact, he wanted to read all of them.

Darky was more lost in the huge place and he kinda just wandered around for a while before he stopped dead on his tracks. There were few paintings on the walls and one caught his notion fully. The youngest of the three brothers stared at the picture in pure silence with eyes wide. “Daaku!” He shouted out while being fully excited. “Daaku! Daaku! You gotta see this! Daaaaakuuu!” The young boy shouted while fully ignoring the harsh looks he got for being so loud.

Dark flinched the moment he heard Darky’s call. He had told to both of his brothers how to behave in a library but seemingly his youngest brother hadn’t listened to a word he had said. “Darky, hush it!” The oldest half hissed once he got to his brother. Yet, that command went right past the kid’s hearing.

“DAAKU! LOOK!!” Darky shouted even louder if possible and pointed to the painting. “I want that! Daaku, I want that!!” He half whined while turning his excited gaze back into the painting.

Finally Dark took a check of the picture. It had what appeared to be a painting of a normal city but there were some oddities in it. There were couple of flying cars, cat with a fish tail and a small snow leopard’s cub eating carrots with a bunny.

The oldest brother frowned a bit at the picture before checking the price tag the painting had. He gulped when he saw the half of a thousand rupees below the name of the painting. “Um.... I think I can do better than buy it...” Dark half whispered and took a glance around. “But, before that, we prolly should get you few books.” He continued and started to usher his brother away from the expensive painting and bit hoping the kid would forget it.

“B-but....” Darky whined sorrowfully before sighing and letting his brother take him away from the most amazing painting he had ever seen. Yet, his expression brightened the moment they found the art books. The young child started to go through the books without knowing what to take.

Dark smiled slightly at his brother’s enthusiasm before looking around. “Where’s Link?” He inquired and ended up bit surprised when Darky pointed towards his right.

“Nature.” The kid simply stated without taking his gaze off of the books. He had managed to get a glimpse of a picture of a tree when Dark had brought him over to the art section. The older one nodded and headed off to check his younger brother.

“Anything yet?” Dark inquired straight off but soon frowned as Link turned around with wide-eyes.

“I.... I didn’t know there’s this many books about animals and nature....” Link half whispered in awe and turned his gaze back into the books. The oldest brother was bit surprised but he soon smiled and crouched down to his brother’s level.

“So, let’s narrow things down a bit, shall we?” He inquired and Link simply nodded. “So, you wanna know of one specific animal or all?” Dark asked first.

“All.” Came the reply straight off.

“Alright.” The older one nodded and gently turned his brother around to show the wild animal section instead of the domestic ones. “Any specific race or all?” Was the next question.

Link frowned for a moment before making his choice. “All.” Dark nodded and swiftly started to go through the titles while bit pulling the books that had more than one area’s or kind animals bit off.

“You got any specific area you’d like to know them of?” Dark inquired and Link shook his head. “Okay.” The oldest put back the ones that were having only one area and so narrowed the search area even more. “So, you want me to pick few or do you want to make that choice by yourself?” He asked next with a small smile.

Link blushed slightly and turned his gaze off. “You choose.” He half mumbled but kept a check on what his brother would pick. Dark simply nodded and turned his gaze back into the books. Soon he pulled a book out.

“This okay?” He asked while showing the book’s title to his brother. Link nodded but suddenly he squealed and startled his brother fully. Nearly straight off he pulled a book out, one that had been before the one Dark had picked.

“I want this one!!” Link half shouted while staring at the picture with a wide smile. On it was a picture that had combination of three photos, a seagull, a whale and a cheetah. The book’s title was “Animals on air, ground and water”.

“O-okay.... Anything else?” Dark inquired after getting past his first shock and placing the earlier book back. Link nodded and pointed to the picture of a fir tree. Dark frowned a bit before he understood the meaning. “So you want info of nature in overall?” He asked and Link nodded happily. “Alright, let’s check then.” The oldest continued and gently guided his brother over to the books before once again making few inquiries and so helping to pick a book. Soon the middle brother was clutching his chosen book of animals and Dark’s chosen book of different kinds of nature’s areas.

The duo returned back to Darky whom was pretty much pulling a book out, shaking his head and pushing it back in all the way into the back wall before pulling another out. Dark almost facepalmed at his brother’s doing. He sighed a bit and stopped Darky. “I doubt the staff to like much of that, Darky.” The oldest told with a small smile. “So.... What do you want to know of art?” He asked but inwardly kicked himself straight off for the question.

Darky simply shrugged and turned his gaze back into the books. “So, um..... You want to just check pictures?” Dark tried again and gained a shake of head. “Um.... Got any artists you like...?” He asked next while fully feeling like an idiot to ask something like that from a four year old boy. Yet, Darky simply shook his head. “Alright....” Dark half whispered while taking a check of the books with a slight frown. Soon he grinned and picked a book. “How about this?” He asked and showed it.

The book’s title was “Advanced techniques of drawing 2”. Darky frowned but picked the book and started to go through it. The further he got, the more he smiled. “I think we found a book for you.” Dark half whispered before ushering his brothers towards the table and few chairs. “Just wait for me at here for a while. I gotta pick a book for myself too.” He told before getting up and heading off.

Link took a place from a comfy sofa while Darky went over to the table. Yet, soon the youngest started to frown. “LiLi.... What does ‘line weight’ mean?” The kid inquired while raising his gaze up. The older brother winced at the nickname and got up from his place.

“Lemme see.” Link half mumbled while taking the book and going through several pages but finding no answer. “Um.....” He started before getting idea. “Let’s see if there’s earlier book for this. Maybe we’ll find the answer from there.” The middle brother suggested and guided his brother back to the art section. Luckily the first book was in there too and they got the answer but it also gave something else for them.

Darky grinned widely as he found a section he knew nothing of. He half dashed back to the table, picked a pen and a paper. The paper itself already had a printed picture without color which obviously meant for kids to have rights to color it as they wished. But the four year old couldn’t care less for the picture as he turned it around, placed the book close to him and started to draw by checking the instructions every now and then.

As Dark was coming back with four books, he stopped at the paintings. He glanced once around before taking out his phone and took a photo. “I hope I can make it worthy enough...” He thought while checking his catch and going to fetch his brothers. Yet, the oldest brother stopped for a while to just watch the two younger kids. Link was sitting on the sofa and staring at the cover of a book. He glanced around now and then to make sure Darky was close by and well. Darky on the other hand was still drawing and giving no notion whatsoever to his surroundings. Not even to the other kids around which got the middle brother to glance at them whenever they either got too close or made bit of an unexpected sound.

Not wanting to bother Darky, the oldest made his way to Link’s side and sat down. “So, I guess we’re good to go once he’s done?” He inquired and nodded towards his youngest brother.

“Pretty much so. We kinda needed to find the first book too since there were few unknown things in the second one.” Link replied before tad frowning. “Daaku.... Did you know that a seagull got fifty feathers in one wing?” He asked with a cute frown while raising his gaze up into his brother.

Dark blinked bit surprised. “Um.... No, I did not know of that....” He replied bit confused before grinning. “But that makes it hundred feathers in wings a bird, doesn’t it?” The ruby eyed boy stated while fully enjoying of the eager nodding and happy smile of his brother.

Just then Darky raised his gaze up from his work. “Daaku! Look what I did!!” He half shouted and dashed to the sofa before already scrambling to Dark’s lap. “Look! Look!” The youngest almost begged while showing his work of a winged deer hovering bit over a small stream and staring down to its reflection.

Dark blinked few times first in start but after that in awe. “I knew it would’ve been a huge mistake to give him kid’s books of art....” He thought while being bit at loss of words for the shown drawing. “That..... Is absolutely amazing.” The oldest finally whispered while carefully taking the drawing.

Darky was pretty much beaming with happiness. Yet, his gaze soon returned to the painting on the wall and his expression fell a bit. Dark blinked a bit surprised of the sudden change and followed where his brother’s gaze was fixed into. Once he noticed the paintings, he sighed sorrowfully. “Sorry, bro, but it’s too expensive. And I doubt Dad would pay for it either.” He apologized which only got the youngest one to slump.

“So, you two ready to go?” The oldest brother inquired while glancing from one brother into other. Link nodded once firmly while Darky sighed and nodded. The young boy’s ruby eyes stayed on the painting for quite some time before dropping into the floor. Dark carefully wrapped his arm around Darky’s shoulders while hoping to bit comfort him by that. Link would’ve claimed the other arm if the oldest one wasn’t having books to carry.

The trio made their way to the librarian to get their books loaned out. When their turn came the young woman smiled and asked them to wait for a moment. The younger brothers bit frowned which only left the oldest one to shrug. As she came back, she had a small card with her. “I noticed that one of the paintings piqued your notion.” The librarian started and gave a postcard which had the specific painting as its picture.

Darky squealed in full delight and pretty much hugged the postcard. “Thank you!!” He half shouted while smiling widely. The woman chuckled happily at the kid’s happiness and simply nodded while marking the chosen books.

From the library the trio went to the close by being hamburger shop to eat before going home. Darky dashed straight off to his room to pin the postcard to his wall before already starting to draw with the explanations from the book. Link on the other hand made his way to the living room with his chosen book and just continued to stare and make small notions of the cover of the book.

Dark was grateful of the next day being a chance of doing as they wished with just couple of specific and last lessons. He already knew what he was up for which was why he was actually waiting for the next day. The only trouble was that he needed to get Link’s book along somehow.

When the next day rose, Dark snuck into Link’s room. He really hated to get Link into trouble for the “missing” book but he needed it for his work. The oldest brother froze and nearly stopped breathing when the middle brother moved a bit in his sleep. When the golden haired boy calmed down again, the ruby eyed kid silently sighed in relief and left the room with the book.

At school Dark went straight into the computer room and put one of the machines on. After that he swiftly scanned the book’s cover with the best qualities he could before already uploading the photo he had taken yesterday at library. The oldest of Avalon brothers had bit thought about taking the postcard along for full back-up on the colors but he felt like that would’ve been way too much of causing trouble and harm to his brothers.

Most of the day, even through the lunch time, Dark spend at the computer room. He worked to carefully take the book’s title and few other information off. He bit thought about slightly altering the picture by adding some other objects into there too like few different trees or couple of more animals but he didn’t feel like it being the right choice. With the other picture he mainly fixed the colorations since the lightning in the library hadn’t really worked well for taking a photo of the painting. Once he was done with the fixations, with the main time having gone with the book cover’s fixations, Dark printed the two pictures out. He made sure to use bit stronger paper and rather rolled them than bend to keep them straight enough.

When he returned back home, the whole house was a mess. For full luck, the trio’s father wasn’t home to see the destruction that had hit the rooms. Link was currently going through the living room in desperate search for the book while crying. He had already searched through his own room and bathroom. Dark stared wide-eyed at his brother’s doing. “Link.... What in Goddesses names are you doing?” He asked while fully knowing what had gotten Link to turn the whole house upside-down.

“I can’t find the book!” Link cried while going through the bookshelf. “It was in my room at last night but it wasn’t there when I woke up!” He shouted while slumping to the floor. “I can’t find it, Daaku. I lost library’s book. They’re gonna be sooo mad at me!” He wailed in desperation and slight fear.

Dark was feeling hellish for what he was doing to his younger brother but he knew he couldn’t tell the truth out. Not yet, at least. He walked to Link and gently but tightly hugged him. “Don’t worry, bro. I’ll help you to find it.” He promised and kissed the side of the younger one’s head. “I’ll just take these off to my room and start searching. Okay?” Dark told and gently wiped his brother’s tears off.

Link sniffled and nodded. “O-okay...” He half mumbled and slumped down to the sofa. “I... I’ve checked my room, the kitchen and the living room.” The golden haired boy continued while raising his sorrowful gaze into his brother. “I don’t know where to look from anymore.” He whispered while dropping his gaze into the floor.

“Don’t worry, Link. We’ll find the book. I promise.” Dark said and gave one more hug to his brother before getting up and going to his room. At there the oldest brother sighed heavily and swiftly changed his clothes before hiding the presents. He still needed to go out to buy few more things before his work would be complete. After having gotten the pictures into safe place, he took the book and carefully snuck into Link’s room. “Dear Goddesses, please forgive me...” He whispered while starting to try figure out a way to where the book could’ve gone into from the table during a night and how it could’ve been out of Link’s notion.

And then it hit him. The radiator. Link certainly hasn’t checked from behind it. With slight excitement but also with bit of fear for his brother to come in at wrong time, Dark carefully checked if it even would be possible for the book to end behind the radiator. He sighed in relief when the book wasn’t too long nor too thick for that to prevent his idea. After that he searched out a small mirror from his brother’s room and checked the chance to see into the small area between the radiator and the wall. The luck was with him as he was able to see into the area.

With these two notions, he spend a while longer in his brother’s room before leaving the area and acting like cleaning the book from dust. “Link! I found the book!” He called straight off after getting out of the middle brother’s place. The younger brother straight off dashed out of the living room, up the stairs but only getting to halfway before already hugging his brother tightly. His eyes had bit widened at the sight of the book.

“Thankyou! Thankyou! Thankyou, Daaku! Thank you!!” Link almost shouted in glee and almost snatching the book from his brother’s hands and hugging it tightly. Dark was bit taken off guard by his brother’s actions but he couldn’t help but smile at the sight right in front of him.

“I found it from behind the radiator.” Dark started as calmly as he could. “I guess you had accidentally swiped it from the table into there.” He explained with a slight shrug.

Link was bit surprised and slightly frowned. “But.... But I checked from there....” He half complained while not really wanting to believe to have missed the book in his search.

Dark smiled a bit and shrugged. “It was bit jammed in there. I almost missed it too.” He replied and pulled Link into a hug. “But, it’s found now, right?” The ruby eyed brother said with a smile and started to usher his brother back to downstairs. “Now, let’s clean the places before Dad comes home.” He continued while hoping that they’d have enough time to fix the mess.

Link nodded but pulled out of the hold. “I just take this back to my room first.” He stated and dashed into his room. He placed the book to his bed before running back to his brother whom had gotten down the stairs by then.

Few hours went past swiftly as the duo cleaned the three rooms. The brothers were just sipping hot chocolates when their father and youngest brother came home. “I smell hot chocolate! Is one for me?!” Darky straight off called and swiftly got off of his shoes and jacket before dashing into the kitchen.... Only to find no third hot chocolate.

Dark turned to look towards the kitchen from the sofa at living room. “Sorry, bro! We didn’t know when you two would come back.” He called while getting up and heading into the kitchen. “But I doubt it to take long if I made one for you now.” The older ruby eyed boy told as he placed his mug down to a counter and started to work with the requested drink.

Link followed Dark into the kitchen and leaned against the table while watching his brothers. Darky was looking overly excited of the treat while Dark concentrated into his working. Without the trio’s notion their father came to the kitchen’s door. He watched his sons in silence before bit smiling and shaking his head. The trio still didn’t notice a thing as he left to his room and sorted out the bought things before taking his youngest son’s last minute Christmas present buying into the kid’s room. After that he returned into the kitchen and by then the trio had occupied the table and sipping their hot chocolates.

Dark raised his gaze into his father when he came in. “I would’ve asked if you wanted one too but you weren’t there anymore.” He started with slight sorrow in his voice of having failed such task.

“It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.” The trio’s father told with a smile and nod while going to make himself a tea.

Dark hesitated for a moment but eventually he asked something that had been in his mind for a while now. “Hey, Dad.... I’d need to go buy few things. Now that you and Darky are home, can I go for my errand?”

The trio’s father sighed a bit and glanced outside from the window. “It’s getting dark already so I would be much calmer if you went tomorrow.” He replied while turning his gaze into his oldest son. Dark sighed a bit but nodded in understanding. After that rest of the evening went quite calmly.

At the next day, straight after the celebration of sorts at school, Dark went to handle his errand. Once at home with the bought things, he went straight off to his room while simply telling not to bother him for a while. He even put a note to the door and taped the keyhole to prevent his youngest brother from trying to look through it. The oldest brother fully counted on his younger brother to keep their youngest brother from bothering him.

With those small precautions, he started to pack the presents. He worked as swiftly as he could while bit fearing for other one or both of his brothers to come unannounced into his room. Dark pretty much sighed in relief once he was done with the packing and having had the time safely for himself. After that he hid the presents into the small locked drawer of his while being fully grateful of it being big enough for the packages.

Link was equally interested of Dark’s little errand but unlike Darky, he didn’t ask questions. The only thing that got him to be bit uncertain was the choice of presents he had for his family. Darky on the other hand had no trouble or worry of his presents for his family.

When the trio woke up to the next day of Christmas, they were occupying the oldest brother’s bed. This wasn’t any of news but there was three small packages on Dark’s table. Darky got pack of pens, Link’s present contained a squirrel keychain and Dark gained a keychain which had the photo of his brothers.

The trio went to thank their father the moment they had calmed down enough from the small surprise of the morning. Their dad was putting the table ready with different Christmas foods. The trio did what they could to help with things while one at a time was changing clothes.

After the dinner the family of four visited at the graveyard to take a candle to their mother’s grave. Once back at home they took a moment to calm down and find the Christmas spirit again. It wasn’t easy but Darky got tired of waiting and fetched his slim packages while telling it was about time they shared the presents. This eventually brought back the happiness of the day.

Darky obviously gave out drawings he had done. Dark got a picture of styled trio of wolf, puppy and squirrel playing together. Their father got a drawing of trio of dragons with each of them having fully recognizable features of the trio of brothers. The dragons were facing a strong enemy but together the trio was unbeatable and that was very clearly showed in the drawing. For Link the youngest had drawn a family of squirrels.

Dark didn’t go as far with the own working but he had fixed things a bit with the presents. For Darky he had a poster sized picture of the painting the kid had hit his eyes on. The poster was in rainbow colored frame. This certainly gained a squeal and a tight glomp from the youngest brother. For Link was a poster of the middle brother’s favorite book’s cover without the texts.

“Y-you.... You took the book!” Link half exclaimed while staring at the poster in bluish frame before raising his gaze into his brother. This obviously confused the youngest brother and the father but Darky was too enchanted by the poster and their dad let the duo clear things out on their own. Dark gave a nervous chuckle and shrugged.

“I couldn’t tell you the truth or the present would’ve been ruined.” The oldest one explained bit sorrowfully. Link blinked few times before smiling fondly and looking at the given present. After that he gently put it down and walked to Dark and hugged him tightly while thanking for the poster.

For their dad, Dark had also worked a poster sized picture of their mother. He had bought bit of a brownish red colored frame for it since the photo’s background worked well with it. This present gained few tears into the trio’s father’s eyes.

Link was bit uncertain as he shared the presents he had bought. For Darky he had searched for rarer colors and pens. It had been bit more expensive than he had wished for but at least it would be bit different than what the kid usually gained as the tools of working with his drawings, paintings and carvings. For Dark he had bought Silver Fang movie which he knew to be his brother’s favorite one. With it had luckily come a small sculpture of one of the movie’s situations. For his dad he had managed to work keychain locket. On one side was a photo of their mother and on the other side was the rest of the family.

Their dad had more than one present each. Darky gained a set of different kinds of paper, kit of sculpting items and couple of books of drawing techniques. Link got a book of world’s different squirrels, a scrapbook of news of nature from different newspapers and a card that gave free entry into the local zoo for whole next year with as many visits as he wished to do. The first present for Dark was a guitar which their dad had seen his oldest son look at every time they had passed a music store. The second present was few items like few picks, metronome and spare strings The third present was a book on how to play a guitar.

The rest of the day went by the books. At the evening the trio was once again at Dark’s room. They thought about staying up through the night but halfway through, the younger brothers started to nod off. Eventually, when Dark came back from fetching bit of snacks, he found his brothers asleep on the floor. With a small sigh and a fond smile, he carefully picked his brothers up one at a time and placed them to his bed. Without the company he didn’t see a reason to stay up through the night so he took a place from the king sized bed of his.

The next days of the holidays went by playing in the snow by building snowmen, playing snowball war and sliding down few slopes as well as going for ice skating. In the evening they were at Dark’s room reading books and watching movies while having bit of snacks. The two younger brothers had the privilege of listening and encouraging Dark in his guitar playing. In the end of the holidays the oldest brother had learned a song and he was able to play it without trouble.

THE END
